No to Woking press release (16th July 2001)
Despite speculation about the club considering that Bees fans
"are making too much of the Woking issue", the peaceful protest
at Kingfield this coming Friday is going ahead. Fans are gearing
themselves up for a prolonged campaign against the abhorrent proposal
that a groundshare at Woking may still be undertaken without assurances
that a new stadium local to Brentford is, at the very least, secured
by a legally binding agreement.
The campaign, contrary to the opinion some people seem to hold,
is being organised by supporters with the club`s best interests
at heart. Frankly, people would rather be doing other things than
spending countless hours organising protests!
If Brentford FC`s hierarchy were astute, perhaps they would grasp
the fact that if its supporters are so dedicated to campaigning
against something perceived as totally negative, then they could
well be persuaded to launch a crusade for something perceived
as positive. So much time and energy is being exhausted on this
project by concerned fans; we really do have better things to
do with our time but we will not idly sit back and see our club`s
very existence threatened by this proposal.
However, the NTW group is 100% committed to seeing off the Woking
threat and the campaign begins on Friday, outside the main gates
at Kingfield from around 6pm.
Supporters are meeting at Woking station from 4-30 and will be
dropping leaflets through the doors of residents local to Kingfield
to highlight our concerns.
Bees fans will be urged to picket the match, but the protest
will be peaceful and a bucket will be passed among the protestors
asking for the equivalent admission entrance charge to be donated.
This will be passed onto WFC and we hope this be donated to a
local charity of oking`s choice. We are doing this as a goodwill
gesture and to emphasise the peaceful, well intentioned nature
of our protests.
The threat of the Woking "option" - without gaurantees - doesn`t
bear thinking about for Brentford`s future. Let`s stick together
and make sure it doesnt happen.
Up the Bees. Pete Johnston
Public Meeting on Feltham Arenas
This is taken from a message by Paul Stedman on the Griffin
Park Grapevine....There is a very important meeting about
the future of Feltham Arenas, which will be of interest to anyone
who is interested in the future of Brentford FC. Unfortunately
this clashes with the Hampton friendly on the same night, Tuesday
17th July. It is at Southville School, Bedfont Lane, Feltham and
has been called by the West Area Committee of Hounslow Council.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm. West Area comprises the area of
the borough which takes in places like Feltham, Bedfont, Heston
and Hanworth. Members of public are encouraged to attend.
From what I can work out the West Area Committee have "requested"
a report from the executive of Hounslow Council. They want to
know what progress has been made on the Feltham Site, especially
since last December when the Council Executive decided that Feltham
was their preferred site to honour a manifesto pledge of a 25,000
seater stadium in the Borough.
As I understand it, members of the public will be allowed to ask
some questions from representatives of the Council's Executive
and Officers of the council. Although if anyone is planning to
go and ask questions you may have to be prepared to follow certain
protocols that will be laid down by the Chairman on the night.
So this is an important opportunity to put Council officials "on
the spot" (so to speak)
If I could just emphasise one thing: the meeting is about Feltham
Arena IT IS NOT about Brentford FC. So if, for instance, you were
to get up and ask the leader of the Council: "What are you doing
to help Brentford FC?" then you can expect to have the question
rejected (you need to try and find a way of rephrasing it to make
it relevant Feltham Arena).
Local Residents Informed
The local residents at Woking have been informed by Woking Football
Club that Brentford FC have already signed a deal regarding Feltham
Arenas according to Association Secretary, Rosemary Williams!!
It will be interesting to see Woking's response to this state
of affairs! Woking Councillors, John Martin and John Patterson,
have close links to Woking FC and are not sympathetic to our campaign!
More,no doubt,on this soon.
